My post the other day on the book Why We Read What We Read has been getting a lot of traffic and has sparked a great discussion particularly about the romance genre. The authors of the book have taken note and have posted a response on their blog. Do be sure to read what they have to say. They are not anti-romance at all. Really.
And now for those kittens. Let’s play remember when. Remember when they were small and cute as can be? Remember them in the window back in early July?

Now look what’s happened to them:

They are about 5 1/2 months old now and looking very much like cats. Don’t let their serene demeanor fool you though, Dickens and Waldo should have been named Trouble One and Trouble Two. But when I wake up in the morning with both of them curled up against me and purring, I’m sure I’ve found a little slice of heaven.
Hmm, I’m starting to see the benefits of reading living authors–you can argue with them on their blog!
The cat photos are priceless. Waldo and Dickens seem to be getting along famously.
It’s great to get a response from the authors — I agree with Sylvia that that’s the fun of reading and writing about living people
Although it can be scary too, to think that one’s idle musings on a blog could reach the author …
Oh, the little black one looks like a miniature version of my Mambo! These guys are adorable.

Have you ever read one of the best portuguese writers CRISTOVAO DE AGUIAR, who translated ADAM SMITH to the portuguese language.
Please take a look. you won’t waist your time.
Oh my! Look how beautifully big and majestic they’ve both become.
Love the kitten and cat pictures. They’re growing up into teenagers. Look out now!
And its great that the authors of What We Read have created a response to your blog readers.
I seem to have missed your recent post–I’ll have to go and play catch up!
The kitties, no, cats are so cute! It’s amazing they can be so innocent looking when they want to! Is one a leader and the other a follower?
But those cats have tails! Clearly, I don’t understand the bobtail breed.
Awww-I love kittens! And cats of course.
Sylvia, LOL. and thank. Yes, Waldo and Dickens get along quite nicely.
Dorothy, you are right, it is a little disconcerting thinking that what you say about a living author’s book might make it back to them. I try not to think about it.
LK, if Mambo looks like Dickens, then you have a really cute cat
Shell, I have not read Cristovao de Aguiar. Thanks for the recommendation!
Emily, the kitties say thanks!
Geekgirl, you got the teenager part right. They are old enough to know better but are naughty anyway. It is nice of the authors of Why We Read to respond.
Danielle, they are good at looking innocent. Waldo is the leader in most things and the biggest trouble maker!
Susan, Waldo has a tail but Dickens not so much unless you count a little crooked puff stuck to his butt a tail
Bobtail’s have a range of tail lengths from a stub to an almost normal tail. Waldo’s tail is about 3/4 of a regular cat tail. It is interesting they are so different when they both came from the same litter.
Thanks Eva!
I assumed that they were “Where’s Waldo” and “The Dickens, You Say?” But perhaps you could name them after two characters from a great piece of literature: Thing One and Thing Two. Hopefully Seuss’s characters make your kitties seem like angels.
Bikkuri, it’s actually Ralph Waldo Emerson and Charles Dickens but they have turned out to be multi-purpose names. They are thankfully not even close to Thing One and Thing Two!
I gathered the names were literary references. I guess I need an emoticon for ‘tongue in cheek’.
Funny aside: I accidentally gave my boys the same name. One is Fred or Freddie (or Frederik when he’s bad) and the other is Fritz. I told that to a German visitor and he said in a strained and perplexed voice, “One is named Fred?… And the other is named… Fritz?” To which I proudly replied, “Yes!”
About a year later I was researching names. Frederik means “Peaceful Ruler”, which is better than my name, “Total Conqueror”. Excited, I checked the meaning of Fritz: “short for Frederik.” The earlier conversation immediately popped into my thoughts. “So, that’s why that German guy looked at me like I was nuts…”
Maybe I should have named them Reuel and Staples.
Bikkuri, that is a very funny story!
