Flowers for Friday
May 16, 2008 by Stefanie
Spring has finally sprung full force and the garden is a beautiful place. I forgot to mention back on May 1st when I posted a photo of goats beard that it was not actually blooming yet. It still isn’t and won’t be for another two weeks or so. The photo I posted was from last year. These, however, are from today.
Catmint N faassenii “Walker’s Low”

Pussytoes Antennaria plantaginata

And I’m thinking of trying photo blogging even though I am not a photographer, though it would be fun to learn more about. What do you think? A Clover and One Bee

Lovely, lovely, lovely! I’d love to see a photo blog from you!
Have a great and colorful weekend!
Lezlie
I think photos are fun to stick into blog posts, but then I’m a big fan of illustration in general.
I love the idea of a photo blog, and these images are gorgeous. I keep waiting for my clematis to bloom so that I can enjoy it.
A
Terrific photos.
Here is an example of how much of a cheapo I am.
I want a digital camera….. have a digital VIDEO camera, but the photos are real grainy. Anyhoo…. I found out my work is planning on rewarding me with one, so I am waiting. And not purchasing one myself.
How bad is that?

Beautiful! The photoblog looks great too. Yay for spring!
I think this is the first time I’ve seen grape hyacinth. They are so pretty. I love the colour.
I don’t usually get to see flowers around my area, so - more photos please.
I think your photoblog is great idea.
Stefanie! Good for you to try something new. I think your photo blog will be wonderful! I love the title and the Dickinsen poem. I look forward to it!
P.S. Is that the new WordPress Monochrome theme?
Thanks for sharing! (Particularly nice after spending a day in Manhattan in pouring rain.) I’d say a photo blog is a great idea!
Those are gorgeous! I ache for spring…we had a couple of weeks of it and now it’s back to rain and cold…and why not photo blog??
Nice flowers! I wish we could have the scent as well… Is there a widget for that?
Lezlie, thank you!
Daphne, thank you for the encouragement!
Andi, thanks. I don’t have a clematis in my yard yet, but my neighbor does and it is right outside my window so I get to enjoy it too
Cipriano, hey if my work was going to reward me with a digital camera I wouldn’t buy one for myself either! Hopefully they give you a good one!
Dorothy, thanks!
Dark Orpheus, I love grape hyacinth. I have some that are two-toned purple and some that are white but they are looking past their prime. Maybe next year!
BooksPlease, thank you!
TJ, thanks, I have always loved to draw but have never tried photography. It’s all about seeing, at least in my opinion, so I thought I’d give it a try. And yes, that’s the new monochrome theme. It also helped me want to try photoblogging.
Emily, thank you!
Courtney, thanks! Sorry spring hasn’t arrived in your neck of the woods yet. It was very late in coming here.
Smithereens, too bad there isn’t a widget for scent. Someday.
Absolutely gorgeous photos! I love spring flowers - they’re so hopeful and brave
What beautiful photos! My garden looks fab at the moment - it’s the best time of the year for it. I also like the idea of the photo blog, but only on the understanding that it never distracts you from book blogging too
Beautiful pictures.
I don’t know Walker’s low or Pussytoes. What hardiness zone do you live in?
ravenous reader, spring flowers are brave, aren’t they? So much uncertainty with the weather. They give a person hope.
Litlove, spring is a lovely time in the garden, though I suppose you have arrived at late spring by now which is even better. And a photo blog would never distract from the books!
Cam, I’m in zone 4. The Walker’s low catmint is very hardy here and likes cool spring. The Pussytoes is a native prairie plant and a food source for painted lady butterfly caterpillars.
Grape hyacinth are one of my favorite. Stuyvesant hyacinth are my very favorite, but I have the complete opposite of a green thumb.
How lovely! I like your photos–go for the photo blog!! I wish I had some nice flowers in my yard. I did buy two containers with petunias. They look lovely now, but in a month or two…we’ll it’s best not to think what they’ll look like…
Kylee, I love grape hyacinths too. One of the nice things about spring bulbs though is that you don’t really have to have much talent for gardening. They do most of the work for you.
Danielle, thanks for the encouragement! Petunias do prefer the cool weather. I don’t know how large your containers are, but you could always plant one with petunias and do the other one with plants that like the heat. Something with a pretty ornamental grass, a basil with burgundy leaves and a trailing plant like hops flowered oregano could probably take the heat and humidity and look nice all summer.
