No matter how rich some of the characters were, didn’t their lives seem sort of empty? It would be tiresome to constantly have to compete with your friends–who has the better clothes, who discovered who first. Wharton really knew how to write about the upper class, didn’t she!

Heather, you got that right. This book all on its own would be fantastic, but compared to The Age of Innocence or House of Mirth, it seems not quit as good.

Bikkuri, they are an interesting bunch. Their lives are hectic but they are real.
