Reader’s Advisory is a wonderful service provided by librarians. It is, pretty much, just as it sounds, a librarian recommending a good book to a reader. The Reference and User Services Association (RUSA) has announced their best of genre fiction titles.

And since everybody loves a book list, Locus Magazine has a long and yummy list of recommended science fiction and fantasy.

And what can be more fun than science fiction becoming reality? Unless of course that reality is of the unsavory sort and you’ve got an alien that’s about to hatch out of your chest or a computer named HAL. But this is of the savory sort. At Galaxy Zoo 2 you can help professional astronomers by describing galaxies and other space objects using the images they provide. The Galaxy Zoo 2 website gives you all the information you need, but if you want the quick summary, there is a nice article at Phsyorg.com.

And while you are at Physorg.com, check out the article about words as entangled quantum states. This is part of a new field called quantum cognition. The model developed is about word associations and memory and falls somewhere between the “spreading activation” model and the “spooky activation at a distance” model (it really is spooky). And if you accuse me of telling you about this article just so I could write “spooky activation at a distance” on my blog, I won’t be able to deny the accusation. I love science.
