School is going along, if a little bumpy. The actual work is not hard but last week the professor never received my assignment and didn’t say anything until I emailed him this week to ask why my grades didn’t get posted. I resubmitted the assignment and got full credit but then he commented that I needed to be sure to participate on the discussion board because I didn’t last week. Uh, yes I did. So I emailed him back with the date and title of the thread I created. He emailed me back today to say he reviewed the discussion board and found my postings and gave me credit. It is so much extra work to have to keep following up with everything. The professor is probably getting tired of my emails and I am getting tired of having to email him about my work to make sure I get credit.

But, as I said, the actual work is not hard. It is fun to a point but then it gets a bit tedious. We haven’t gotten to styles sheets yet which means every page I create I have to hand code all the formatting. We are supposed to be playing with fonts and colors and what-not and in order to keep all my pages looking consistent, I have to add formatting code to every single page. Time consuming to say the least.

I have not added images yet except to create a little favicon. The site navigation is simplistic and ugly but until we get to css (cascading style sheets) where I can learn how to do tabs and make a sidebar, that’s as good as it is going to get. I came this close to getting over-involved in trying to figure out how to format the old-fashioned way by using tables to lay everything out. As I started to try and figure out how to do complex tables I came to my senses.

The site I am making is about gardening. You are welcome to poke around, though there isn’t much there. The pages with the most are the ones on location and pests. It would be nice if I could just work on this site for the entire quarter but my final is a second site that I will get to build while learning how to use Dreamweaver. I am glad to get the chance to learn how to use the software but that also means I have to come up with another topic for a website. For some reason coming up with a topic is hard for me and I am already starting to worry about what it is going to be. But I guess if topic selection is the hardest thing then I am doing ok.
