A couple weeks ago I posted a meme that included a question that asked what my weirdest literary/book dream was and I sadly had never had one. Well, today I can change my answer!
Last night I dreamt that my sister and I had written a poetry book together. The title of the book was Eat Your Fruits and Vegetables. Even more incredible than the title was that it won the “St. Peter Award” for first poetry books. To my knowledge there is no such thing as a St. Peter award. I have no idea where my brain pulled that one from, but given the title of the book, it didn’t have far to go. Nonetheless, I am certain the dream is prophetic and my sister and I should start writing poetry immediately. We have a prize-winning future ahead of us!
One more thing before I toddle off (three-day weekend! Half Price Books sale!). Dailylit is offering four essays from Burn This Book: PEN Writers Speak Out on the Power of the Word edited by Toni Morrison, for free. You can get them all at once or in 11 installments. Don’t miss your chance! I’ve subscribed and have two installments but haven’t gotten the time to read them yet. Maybe over the weekend. Did I mention it is a three-day weekend?
LOL, great dream! Maybe you should start the St. Peter Poetry Prize! Also, I’m heading over to DailyLit–thanks for the tip!
Thanks for the tip! And that’s a great dream. I love the title. Prizewinning for sure!
Cool. I wish I dreamed about books, but I can’t remember any.
I definitely think it was a prophetic dream. Can’t wait to read that award-winning book of poetry by you and your sister (I’m thinking shades of Margaret Atwood’s dreaminess with Emerson’s practicality. Is that possible?)
That dream!
It is too good. The detail of it, I think it is so interesting and hilarious. I wish that I dreamed in such recallable detail.
[Is recallable a word? It should be...]
Was there a monetary element to this St. Peter Award??
I like your dreamworld. It’s nice to write books and win things in it. My dreams are more usually horror stories. Mind you, I did dream the other night that Hitler asked me to contribute a chapter to a book he was editing, and I had to go and have a word with him to let him know I wouldn’t relinquish any of my artistic integrity. If I was going to write, I had to be allowed to say what I wanted. Hitler seemed okay with this, I’m glad to say. It did make me laugh when I woke up.
You know, Eat Your Fruits and Vegetables could actually work as a title. I’m imagining some nature poems, maybe, and maybe some poems about social rules and expectations. It could be kind of subversive. I like it!
i love your dream! and i love dorothy’s idea about a subversive book of poetry inspired by the dream. Have a great weekend!
Gentle Reader, yes, I’ll start the prize and award the first one to myself
Daphne, certainly, enjoy! I love the poetry title too. I keep trying to imagine what the poem might say.
Jeane, this is the first time to my recollection that I have dreamt about books so don’t give up hope!
Emily, oh yes, i should think it would have to have a mix of dreaminess and practicality. I’m not sure my sister and I are the ones to write it though!
Cipriano, I seldom remember my dreams but when I do they are usually good on detail. Too bad I can’t recall more of them.
Sister, I am certain there is a monetary element to the award. Is that good incentive?
Litlove, oh my gosh Litlove, how your dream made me laugh! Only you would say such a thing to Hitler and get him to agree to it!
Dorothy, subversive poetry? I like the way you think!
Courtney, Dorothy did have a great idea. Thanks! I hope you have/had a good weekend too!
