Packages!

I am but a few pages away from finishing Barbara Pym. I will squeeze them in before bed and then tomorrow I will get to start a new book. I already have it picked out and waiting: Sword at Sunset by Rosemary Sutcliff. It is an Arthurian epic. That seemed like a rather fun choice to go from several books in a row that take place in between the wars Britain up to the 1950s, to go back in time to Arthur’s Britain.

And what a wonderful day it turned out to be when I arrived home to find packages for me! A Bookmooch treasure of Don’t Look Now, Stories by Daphne du Maurier. Two beautiful books from Oneworld Classics, The Prince by Machiavelli and The Last Day of a Condemned Man by Victor Hugo. And a little package from Heather that included a book called Library of the Dead by Glenn Cooper. And from Daphne a print of her beautiful Red Owl painting. I am a very lucky girl. I wish every Monday could be like this one!

Tomorrow I will write about Pym. Now I must be off to start reading about digital library architecture. Somehow I don’t think I’ll have to be able to tell the difference between a Doric, Ionic and Corinthian column. A relief really because I seem to recall finding it difficult to remember the difference way back in art history. No doubt digital architecture is bound to present me with something equally as baffling.

I also know I am behind on replying to comments here. I like to keep up with those but have fallen behind. I will try and catch up over the next couple of days!

I see you must have been the one who beat me on Bookmooch to get a DuMaurier! :) How fun to get packages and on a Monday. Makes the start of the week a perfect one. Enjoy your goodies and looking forward to hearing about the Barbara Pym book.

Heh, were you trying to get that book too? Perhaps when I am finished with it I will pass it along. I hope you aren’t in a hurry though because it might be a little while :)

Great mail! Wonderful way to begin the week!

  4. Heather says:

Yea! It arrived already! Good. I really think you’ll like that book. I’m going to post my review soon so don’t read it! hehe

    Excellent Monday Mail Day!

What is Bookmooch? It sounds marvelous. I’m trying to get through The Dead Secret by Wilkie Collins. I’m loving it, but having trouble finding reading time. Look forward to hearing about the Pym book.

You don’t know about Bookmooch? Oh Grad, you are missing out! It’s a free book exchange. List books you are willing to part with, someone “mooches” one, you get a point that you can then use to “mooch” a book you want. It is a marvelous thing.

  7. Grad says:

Oh, gosh! I love BookMooch. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

  8. Dorothy W. says:

Very fun! I need to go check out the One World site a little more; their books look really great. Enjoy those du Maurier stories!

  9. Stefanie says:

Grad, oh yes. Welcome to a new dimension in book addiction :)

Dorothy, One World I am discovering makes gorgeous little books. I think you would find much there to like. Those du Maurier stories will be perfect for a rainy or snowy day!

You know you really do well with juggling school work with reading, I am sure if it were me one or the other would surely suffer. I have a copy of Du Maurier’s Don’t Look Now story collection–loved the title story–you must read it and then watch the very creepy and atmospheric movie! I also got a One World classic–I chose Henry Miller–I’ve never read him… I hope I am not in over my head.
