My cat Dickens has decided he needs to stretch out in front of me, an obstacle between me and my computer, and he is using my right arm as a pillow. Trying to push him off is no good as he just settles down on his arm pillow again. And trying to type with his head on my arm is impossible. He is not very keen on having his head bobbing around and he lets me know it with a judicious use of claws spread out across the back of my hand, not to scratch, just pricking my skin enough to indicate his displeasure. So I type one-handed, arm arced up over his purring furry body. The things we do for pets.
My typing arm is already getting tired therefore this will be short.
First, let me say thanks to whoever nominated me for a Book Blogger Appreciation Award. It was a surprise and an honor.
I was very sad this year when Carl announced the R.I.P. IV Challenge. I didn’t think I’d have time to participate. But then last night as I finished reading Neil Gaiman’s first Sandman I realized that with two additional Gaiman books sitting on my desk and slated for reading within the next couple weeks that the challenge was something I could do after all. So now I am in. Better late than never. And maybe, just maybe, I will be able to squeeze in a Wilkie Collins, or at least get a good way into it. Not sure which one though. It will be a last minute choice. I’ll be reviewing Sandman in the next day or two. The other Gaiman books I have I have mentioned before but will mention them again because I am looking forward to them and because I don’t expect you to keep track of my reading list: M is for Magic and Death: The High Cost of Living.
I am very much looking forward to the long holiday weekend we have here in the U.S. for Labor Day. No homework to worry about, just pleasant weather, sunny and in the upper 70s, and a large expanse of reading time to look forward too. Life is good at the moment.
And now I think I will go get started on that reading binge.
How does Dickens feel about the reading binge? My cat scratches his nose on the spine of the book and gnaws at the pages. It’s hard to read something that’s moving up and down, but I do my best.
You remind me, I really must read Neil Gaiman. Looking forward to your review of the Sandman!
Your mention of Dickens made me smile. My cats aren’t fond of laps, so when one does decide to sit on me and purr, I don’t want to do anything to disturb them, so it will last longer! I simply can’t type with a cat on my lap, though.
Oh, the things we do for pets indeed. I don’t have cats, but the things we do to make our dog happy … enjoy your long weekend of reading!!
I’m picking up Sandman today at the library! I can’t wait. I totally know what you mean about the cat-obstacles. Usually my kitty is right in my lap (along with the laptop). Not really ergonomically correct. Our entire house is basically set up for cats. It’s a little sad. But hey, they deserve it.
Whenever I finish walking on my treadmill I will sit on the floor and stretch and will usually have a book in hand and one cat will (Every Time) come over and nudge my book with her face and then plop down in front of me (when I move my book out of reach) so that I have to work around her. They will always be the center of attention and will make sure you know it!
Have a great weekend–I hope you get in lots of reading!
Litlove, Dickens loses interest when it comes to reading, that’s Waldo’s territory. Waldo will happily snore away on my lap or curled against my side for as long as I can sit. Sometimes he will remind me to pet him by nudging the book. Not quite as difficult as your cat makes it for you!
Jeane, The cat I had before the two I have now was like yours, he disdained laps and wanted attention on his terms only. On the rare instances he curled up on my lap I was afraid to move and ruin it so I know exactly how you feel!
Dorothy, Heh, I bet Muttboy has you and Hobgoblin wrapped around his paw
Daphne, enjoy Sandman! Sounds like your cats have a nice set up there. And we call ourselves the owners!
Danielle, sitting on the floor makes you an easy target, but we wouldn’t want it any other way, would we?
That’s exactly what Hez does when I sit at the computer or pull out my knitting. And how am I supposed to dislodge her? It’s so cute.
I haven’t done Carl’s RIP challenge the last couple of years but I LOVE reading everyone who does. All those delicious titles.
