Let’s see, I haven’t had much time to read of late, a situation that always makes me sad, yet I remain hopeful each day that maybe today I will finish my homework early and my brain won’t be mushy and I can climb into bed (doesn’t matter if it’s only 8 pm!) and read and read and read. What reading I have been doing has been school related (XML, XSL, MODS and METS oh my!) except for on the bus/train and during my lunch break. My commute and lunch reading at the moment is volume two of Emerson and Carlyle’s letters. I am learning quite a lot about bookselling and copyright in the 1840′s.
I’ve managed to get myself about halfway through Susan Hill’s The Woman in Black. So far not much has happened but with all the foreshadowing of doom and gloom, something had better happen and happen spectacularly or I am going to be a bit disappointed. I can’t say anything more about the book though until the Slaves discussion starts on the 29th.
Reader Nick, who also happens to be the proprietor of BookSwim, the book rental company, is asking for people’s thoughts and opinions on whether or not he should try to publish a rather personal book that he wrote to his now wife as a marriage proposal. How romantic is that? He does not have a sample posted but maybe he can be encouraged to provide at least a few paragraphs to help people form an opinion.
And from Cindy, my sister, a news article about the possible discovery of a new Shakespeare play. The play is written by the great Bard and co-author Thomas Kyd, another playwright during Shakespeare’s time. I think the media is less interested in a new Shakespeare play and more interested in the fact that plagiarism detection software was used to analyze the text.
I’m going to go do some homework now and maybe, maybe I will be done early enough to be able to read something for fun.

Stefanie,
Thank you very much for the mention. I think it is a great idea to post a sample. I will schedule that for a future blog update.
Again, thank you for the mention and for posting constant and amazing posts!

I can’t quite get my head around the thought that the discovery of a new Shakespeare play could be overshadowed by a bit of technology – what is the world coming to? (that’s rhetorical but heartfelt). But it would be tremendously exciting if so. And I do hope you get more reading time in soon – it’s what keeps me sane (ish).
Gah the discussion is on 29th! I thought it was the 31st, must get reading.
I hope you got some reading time in! I’ve begun the Susan Hill and am enjoying it so far — I’m looking forward to the discussion!
I was one of the few who didn’t particularly enjoy The Woman in Black. It didn’t frighten or engage me, and after all the glowing reviews, I was disappointed.
Nick, you’re welcome. Good luck!
Litlove, even if the play is only partially written by Shakespeare as they say it is, it is still very exciting. But yeah, you have to laugh that the technology aiding in the discovering gets top billing.
Jodie, I thought it was the 31st too until recently so don’t feel bad!
Dorothy, thank you. I’m managing to eek some out here and there.
Jenclair, I do believe I am going to be in your corner on this one.
