Wilkie Collins is going along quite nicely. I’ve got nothing else to say about it at the moment other than Wow! And I am on page 423 out of 569. I wish I could do nothing else at all until I was done with it.
I have managed to collect a tidy little pile in preparation for my two-week binge reading vacation at the end of December (It’s never too early to start planning!). The reading will get to start in earnest a little sooner than that however, as my last day of school is December 6th and the winter quarter doesn’t start until January 4th. Too bad I don’t get the whole month off from work! The pile is taking the binge vacation as well as my addition of free time starting on the 6th into consideration. Here it is so far:

The reading binge pile grows
Isn’t it lovely? I think you can read the titles pretty well, though the third from the top is a bit tricky–Moo Pak by Gabriel Josipovici–and the one on top is one I just brought home from the library today, Closely Watched Trains by Bohumil Hrabal.
I’m sure there will be more added in the next couple of weeks. I’ll be sure to take an update picture around the end of November.
Now, off to do homework and hopefully to read a little Wilkie Collins too!
So, six of them are already in my TBR tome, and we own three of them. That means you won’t be adding TOO many titles to my TBR tome (phew! I would hate to have all 20 of my TBR challenge titles immediately replaced by 20 others before I even get to January!).
My favorite kind of binge. Well, next to knitting. Unseen Academicals, I meant to pick that up the other day……
I love pictures of book piles!
How fun! I’m so looking forward to Thanksgiving week, where I won’t have to teach at all, even though I will have grading, and after that it’s not too long until my classes will be finished — yay! I’m so looking forward to my own increased reading time; perhaps I’ll have to think of what I want to read then. I’m already considering Virginia Woolf’s Jacob’s Room; the Christmas holidays seem like a good time to tackle something challenging. It’s great that you will have a solid two weeks — you so deserve it!
The photo is well done. It all seems to have a certain harmony, as if those books were meant to come together in this place.
How exciting to get to look forward to a reading binge! I usually have those when I go camping and there is nothing else to compete for my time but nature, cleaning up around camp, and sleeping!
You’ll never make it to Wilderness Warrior, who are you trying to kid? :p And these people leaving comments are being enablers to your reading binge delusion!
Oh, your binge reading vacation sounds wonderful! I’ve been lucky enough to take a couple of those in my life and I’ve thoroughly enjoyed them. If I remember correctly this is an annual holiday for you, though, yes? Anyway, I want read the Atwood and i am so mad at myself for forgetting about Pratchett while at the library yesterday – I’ve been meaning to pick up a book of his for ages!
This pile looks utterly gorgeous! And DO read the Maitland – I can thoroughly recommend it. It’s interesting and thought-provoking and very accessibly written. The fact it made me want to disagree with it or think more deeply about its premises is very much a part of the good things it does, I think!
I agree that it’s never too early to start planning holiday reading! I’ve read three of the books in your pile and two of them recently. Recently I’ve considering rereading Closely Observed Trains (after reading I Served the King of England by Hrabal) as I recall little about it except that it was surreal.
Ok I may drool now (and it’s a great picture by the way, striking background). Year of the Flood and a Discworld novel, could there be any better use for your week?
Assembling the books is a great way to anticipate your reading holiday! Now, what other comforts do you need to indulge your reading?
I love looking at other people’s book piles, they inspire me to read. You’ve got a great reading list!
“A pile of books is a joy forever.” (Who said that?)
December 6th is just around the corner! You’re going to have so much fun with your book binge!
What a lovely looking pile! You are going to have so much fun with a lot of those books. Also, I’m really glad to hear you’re liking Wilkie. I don’t know if “Woman in White” is your first Wilkie book or not, but of it is it only gets better. At the moment, I’m reading “No Name” and the writing is even better, although the action might be a little slower. I’ve had a difficult time putting it down.
Emily, so six of my books are also on your 20 book challenge list? That will be fun! Will you be posting your list? I am very curious
Carrie, heh, books and knitting are to great kinds of binges. Unseen Academicals looks like it will be a hoot.
Jeane, I love book pile pictures too so that prompted me to share
Dorothy, I’m looking forward to Thanksgiving too though much of my time will be spent on my final project for school, but it helps knowing I will have such a long stretch between classes. I’ve got to read Jacob’s Room one of these days!
Bikkuri, thanks! They do look nice against my red wall, don’t they? I know I like looking at them sitting on the corner of my desk
Kathleen, book binges while camping sounds perfectly lovely.
Cindy, my sister, is that a challenge? And of course everyone commenting are enablers, I count on it!
Courtney, I wish it were an annual holiday. I am usually able to take a week between Xmas and New Year’s, but it’s been a little while since I have been able to take two weeks. You have a very good memory!
Litlove, well how can I not read the Maitland now after that comment?
Paperback Reader, that fact that you are considering re-reading Closely Watched Trains tells me it is really good and makes me look forward to it even more. I hope the other books you read that are in my pile were good ones too.
Jodie, thanks! The background in my study room wall. It is all red and I have all the shelves in the room painted the same color. I love it! And I agree Atwood and Pratchett, can’t get much better than that!
Jenclair, I will need lots of snow, a warm blanket, cats curled up against me and an unceasing supply of tasty treats. Not to much to ask
Hazra, glad to provide inspiration! Other people’s piles do the same for me too.
Grad, hmm, I think you just said it
Heather, I know it is so close, I can hardly wait!
J.S., just the anticipation of reading the books is half the fun. This is my first Wilkie book and I am loving it. I am glad to know there are more good ones to look forward to!
What a lovely pile of books! I’m already mentally thinking of what I want to read as well. Most of mine won’t be quite so highbrow, but I might squeeze in one or two! We only get about a week and a couple of days off so I’m contemplating taking a few days extra–we’ll see how it works out. And yay for Wilkie Collins. (By the way–had to laugh at your sister’s comment–it’s still good to dream big!:) )

What a lovely pile! Definitely some that are on my radar.
I was sure you were going to post about your book buying spree at HPB
I got some coupons from them this week but just haven’t made it to the store. Hopefully on the weekend.
oooo i love to think of the holidays as time for a “binge reading” break!
Danielle, I was mentally thinking about it too but then I worried I’d start forgetting so began piling them all up. I think you should take a couple extra days off if you can swing it
Iliana, there are few things as lovely as a pile of books. I got those coupons too but my weekend plans were too full to take advantage of them. It is probably just as well since this pile is tiny compared to the piles of unreads you don’t see in the photo!
Rebecca, the holidays seem a perfect time for it. I don’t travel anywhere and it is pretty easy to get the time off. Plus it is cold outside so I don’t have to feel guilty for staying indoors
