Bookman is at work tonight. Perhaps I shouldn’t but I’m not going to do any schoolwork this evening. That means it is me and the cats and the gray rain. A perfect evening to spend reading. Now, the pleasure of figuring out what book or books will be keeping me company. Have a good weekend everyone! I hope you all get lots of reading time

Enjoy! I just finished the lovely and light Thornyhold, perfect for a rainy evening with cats!
Nice. I’ve spent my evening with a book and cats as well (unfortunately, not a fantastic one). We all need live reading cams; the interwebs will be revolutionized! Hope you’re having an enjoyable night.
Ahh, see?
Now you can “recline on your bed” and resume your uninterrupted non-peripheral, not-commuting enjoyment of Oblomov.
The first sentence of my own [Penguin] copy is a bit different than yours. The nuances of translation:
Ilya Ilyich Oblomov was lying in bed one morning in his flat in Gorokhovaya Street in one of those large houses which have as many inhabitants as a country town.
This Goncharov fellow obviously has never ever been to the Iowa Writer’s Workshop, where every alumnus worth a Booker knows that you never give away the title of your book in a first sentence.
It’s all gray and raining over here as well, me & the pups are looking forward to a weekend spent on a couch- reading!
Are you going to try the going to bed early trick again? LOL!
I hope you enjoyed your free time! By the way, I’m missing your currently reading section. Perhaps it was too much trouble to keep up? I understand that, but it was fun to see what was there!
Daphne, thanks! And isn’t it wonderful when you read the perfect book for the right time?
Colleen, reading cams, I love it! Sorry you book wasn’t so fantastic though.
Cipriano, what a difference translations make. Goncharov has never been near Iowa, probably had never even heard of the state. As a result he writes long, winding sentences full of extra words, something a workshop graduate would never do. But Oblomov is too busy reclining to notice how unfashionable he is
Lua, I hope you and the pups had a lovely weekend!
whisperinggums, oh yes indeed, going to bed early so when I fall asleep at 9:30 I will still have been able to read in bed
Dorothy, thanks! I didn’t put the currently reading back because I didn’t think anyone ever paid attention to it. But I guess I was wrong so now it has returned
