Thanks for playing along everyone. I wish I had more copies of Barnacle Love to give away.
I put together a list of all the books everyone recommended about the immigrant experience. Here it is, sorry I didn’t link to the books but I’m feeling lazy.
- In the Skin of a Lion by Michael Ondaatje
- Cockroach by Rawi Hage
- The Journals of Susanna Moodie (poetry) by Margaret Atwood
- Shanghai Girls and On Gold Mountain by Lisa See
- Wandering Star by J.M.G. Le Clezio
- The Namesake by Jhumpa Lahiri
- Alias Grace by Margaret Atwood
- Broken Glass Park by Alina Bronsky
- Bread Givers by Anzia Yezierska
- The Visitor (movie)
- House of Sand and Fog by Andre Dubus III
- Across a Hundred Mountains by Reyna Grande
- Winter Garden by Kristin Hannah
- Typical American by Gish Jen
I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Congratulations to iliana! And I do love lists – this is a particularly useful one as I would never have managed to think up all these titles myself.
Congratulations Iliana and thanks for the great links Stefanie! Have a great weekend
Thank you for making the nice list for me, so I didn’t have to wade through all the comments and do it myself. By some very strange twist of fate, I, who rarely sees movies and who reads constantly, have actually seen the one movie on the list (I agree. A great movie about the immigrant experience) and have only read one of the books (Bread Givers — also great).
Thank you so much Stefanie! I am really looking forward to reading the book. And, thank you for the list you collected. Some of those are new to me so I’ll have to look into them.
Thanks for the list! Very useful.
Iliana is such a hoot!
Or, as we say on the Quebec side, le hoot!]
I am so glad that she won!
[Even though I wanted to win! Rats!]
Hope you all enjoy the list. I know my TBR pile is happier
