Ah, my vacation has now begun after a nail biter of a bus ride home. Picture two large buses, one going north, one going south, a street narrowed from lots and lots of snow, cars parked on both sides of the street. Now imagine those two buses trying to pass each other. Traffic backed up behind the buses so neither could reverse direction, the other bus driver was yelling at my driver to just pull straight ahead, buses inching forward ever so carefully, proximity alarms going off (did you know buses had proximity alarms? I didn’t), kids out of school standing on the six-foot high snow banks at the side of the road waiting to see a crash. The people on my bus looking at each other wide-eyed, laughing nervously, encouraging the driver and trying to somehow help. Finally, after what seemed like a very long time but was really only 15 minutes or so, the buses got past each other. We cheered our driver (it was clearly the other driver’s fault), and as we all started reaching our destinations, thanked him and cheerfully wished him a good weekend.
Now it’s on to two weeks of no school and no work. I am one of those fortunate or unfortunate folk, depending on how you look at it, who needs to plan things and who also needs to be doing things. I cannot sit idly and stare at a blank wall or watch mindless television hour after hour. I have therefore created an agenda for my vacation.
Vacation Agenda
- Read
As you can see it is so packed full that I don’t know how I am going to manage it all, but there it is.
I also have a Solstice dinner to plan and cook but that is minor compared to THE AGENDA. One thing is certain, I won’t be bored. I will be sure to post regular updates on my progress.
LOL! That’s quite an agenda! Are you sure you are being realistic? Maybe if you had three weeks but with only two…
I recall one eventful snowy bus ride where we had already detoured to avoid a big hill, and were having trouble getting up a little hill. The driver asked us all (there weren’t many of us) to sit over the rear wheels and luckily it was enough to get traction.
Go buses!
Wonderful! I hope you enjoy every minute of it, and I look forward to reading about your action-packed weeks!
I like your agenda! Enjoy it!
Wow! What a terrific [near perfect, I'd say...] agenda you have there!
A full slate!
Love it!
Are you sure you’re going to be able to squeeze everything in?? Good luck, and enjoy!
We have friends coming to stay for 11 days. That part will be great, we love these friends. But I do envy your single item agenda.
Yes – I envy your agenda too. Reading is something that has to take a back seat over Christmas – unless we get snowed in, which is a possibility this year.
I’m signed up to that agenda, too, although it will have to be squeezed in amongst Christmas nonsense, much as your buses had to squeeze past one another! Yay!So happy you are on holiday now!
Oh dear, I feel for you. Please don’t let it overwhelm you. Just take some deep breaths and start – and I’m sure you’ll manage!
I had some scary bus rides last year–but none that sent off proximity alarms! Glad to hear you are safely ensconced in your warm home and have a good Agenda! I think mine will be very similar when my break starts in just a few more days. Have a great break and I look forward to hearing about your reading progress!
Somehow I can’t stop myself from breathing in when there’s a tight squeeze on the roads, as if that will somehow help!
I hope to have a similar agenda.
Vacation, hooray! I like your agenda – looks a lot like mine. Friday was my last day at work until January 3, and I am looking forward to books and more books. Also maybe some weekday gallery trips once I’m back in the city – I’m going to visit family for the first part of my break.
Now, THAT’S an agenda I can get behind.
Happy holidays Stefanie! I’m relieved you didn’t end up stuck in the bus. Please let us know how your agenda is going…
Ha! This agenda cracked me up. I need to do some serious reading too, I *have* to reach at least 52 books for the year, good lord what happened to my reading habits this year? busy, I guess.
Hooray for the bus driver!
Yes! The best agenda ever. Have a lovely solstice & reading time!
That bus ride sounds harrowing – I’m glad everything ended up working out.
Hurrah for vacation! I love your agenda item and think I need to copy it
I love your agenda. Make sure you work on it every day so you can accomplish your goals by the time school begins again. Happy reading and happy holidays!
Happy Winter Solstice. Don’t forget to go out and watch the total eclipse of the moon tonight (actually 2:41 a.m. Eastern time). If you miss it, you’ll have to wait until 2094 to catch it once again on the Solstice! Looking forward to seeing your menu, and hearing about what you’ve accomplished on your agenda list!
The bus ride to the beginning of your vacations sounds unnerving! Thankfully the agenda you’ve set for yourself should soothe your jangled nerves. Enjoy!
Oh, yes; you surely have the best (and most useful) of agendas there! Much happiness during your two-week break. I admit to being a tad envious.
Most excellent vacation agenda, but it sounds a little ambitious. Hopefully you’ll get to strike all those items off the list.
Sounds like you had a wild start to your vacation! Enjoy your well-deserved time off.
Sylvia, I know! I always seem to bite of more than I can chew but as you know, I’m an optimistic kind of person. Your bus ride story sounds even scarier than mine!
Dorothy, thanks!
Em, I spent a lot of time putting that agenda together
Cipriano, not a bas agenda, eh? Hours of hard work went into its making!
softdrink, I know, it’s going to be hard to complete the agenda but I’m going to try!
Thomas, I hope you get some time away to read!
BooksPlease, then I wish you lots and lots of snow
Litlove, Christmas nonsense will soon be over and you can begin your own agenda
whisperinggums, I know, when I look at the agenda it is a bit overwhelming so I will try to take your advice and just breathe
Danielle, riding the bus can be such an adventure! At least we get some good stories out it, yes? Hooray for your impending vacation!
Katrina, LOL, you never know, holding your breath might help
I hope you have fun with your own agenda!
Heather, I ope you enjoy your holiday as much I plan to enjoy mine!
Emily B, simple and to the point, no equivocating
Smithereens, thanks! So far, the agenda is going pretty well!
Daphne, I wanted to hug my bus driver when I got off the bus for getting me home safely. You’ve been a busy gal this year so don’t be hard on yourself if you don’t reach your reading goal.
Emily, thanks! Yes, thankfully everything worked out and we didn’t have to get off the bus and wait for the police to show up or anything. Big sigh of relief.
Iliana, feel free to copy all or part of my agenda
rebecca, working on the agenda a little everyday is the only way to complete it successfully, I agree. Happy holidays to you too!
Grad, I guess I’ll have to be around in 2094 because it was cloudy and snowing here so I didn’t get to see the eclipse. Hope you got to!
Carrie, yes, my agenda has gone a long way to help me recover from that bus ride
Maria, I spent hours working on that agenda and it shows, doesn’t it?
I hope you get some time to read too!
Michelle, I like to set high goals for myself
Kathleen, thanks!
