It has been one of those brain and energy sucking days that make me glad the weekend is almost here. As a consequence all you get from me today are a few links. But they are good ones so that should count for something, right?
- Have a lot of books you aren’t planning on reading again and don’t know what to do with them? Cool Non-Literary Uses for Books is the article for you! I’m not sure the book sofa would be all that comfortable. I like the book vases though. And the book dress made of Disney books is fit for a princess.
- If you need a laugh, try one of these 10 Parody Novels That Get the Last Laugh. There is Snowball’s Chance a sort of Animal Farm parody, The Da Vinci Cod where something is definitely fishy, and The Chronicles of Blarnia: The Lying Bitch in the Wardrobe which has a most excellent title, don’t you think?
- I want to know who I have to suck up to to be invited to participate in the Cycling for Libraries Unconference for Librarians. The conference takes place from May 28th – June 7th while the 100 invited librarians bicycle the 650 km (~403 miles) from Copenhagen to Berlin discussing the “strategic issues of the the library field in seminars along the route.” How awesome is that? Any U.S. or Canadian librarians out there who would want to do something like this in North America? UPDATE: Upon further investigation, it appears all I have to do is have the vacation time and the cash. Better start saving my pennies. I will need a lot of them to afford just the 250 Euro conference registration fee.
There you go, a few good links. Now I’m off to do some school work.
Love these Stefanie. Wish I could bear to use my books in the creative ways suggested by the nonliterary uses site. And love the Unconference for Librarians. What a great idea – not that I’m a very good cyclist but love the notion.
I love the parody link, thanks. And get some time for yourself. Don’t push things too hard.
I love the non-literary uses for books. I am often using the one about insulation to Mister Litlove, although he remains a tad skeptical. Not absolutely convinced by the couch, though. That looks a leeeeetle bit uncomfortable!
Whisperinggums, I know, I don’t think I could actually do any of those thing to my books either. Maybe if I bought some old books that I had no interest in from a charity shop. But then again, maybe not. I’m not quite ready to ride in the unconference yet but give me another year or two and I will be.
Annie, aren’t the parodies great? Some of them made me laugh out loud. And thanks. I am hoping the weekend will allow me some unwinding time.
Litlove, since Bookman and I both share a book obsession we have joked about good insulation before. However, it seems most of our bookcases are on inside walls and not outside walls which defeats the insulation factor. We’ve got to work on that!
Wow, that librarian bike ride sounds awesome! It almost makes me want to go to library school!
Fantastic link post! I’m absolutely ENAMORED with the Disney princess book-dress, to the point that I’ve been trying to figure out a way to make it myself. No such luck yet, but I’ll keep you posted.
I thought I had a lot of books…but not enough to build a whole wall. I’d better get busy collecting… I’m not sure about your cats but when mine (well one anyway) sees a stack of books she thinks they are for her to hone her claws. Maybe I could make a scratching tree out of books that are ready to be recycled?
Oh, and I Don’t keep stacks of books at cat level!
Dorothy, heh, you’ll have to find a literature conference that does a bike ride, one that traces some kind of literary route. Or organize one yourself
Chelsea, if you figure out how to make that dress and do one yourself you HAVE to share a photo!
Danielle, I forgot about your cat who likes to scratch your books! No, mine thankfully only think piles of books are for climbing up or rubbing against and sometimes chewing on the corners but not very often and usually only when I am reading it. Cats never cease to surprise me with how weird they can be!
Love the cool non-uses for books link. Isn’t the Kindle holder great? So many cool things!
Iliana, the Kindle holder is brilliant. I bet you are artsy enough that you could come up with some of your creative uses for books!
Wow, those really are some very cool non-literary uses for books, and I love the parodies. Never heard of any of them.
