So I’m skimming through a library news email and see a headline that says:
Library offers cancer screenings
Wow, I thought, that’s a pretty amazing service to offer at a library. I paused to read the blurb about these cancer screenings to discover the headline actually said:
Library offers career counseling and resume reviews
Yup. I know.
Since I seem to be having difficulties reading today, I don’t have much hope for my ability to write. Instead, I will simply provide you with a few links I’ve been saving up for such an occasion.
First up, if Hannah Brencher from The World Needs More Love Letters doesn’t make you want to write a letter then frankly, you probably have something wrong with you (via). Because WordPress is stupid when it comes to embedding video unless it is from YouTube, you will have to click away to see the five-minute TED talk.
Have a giggle over 15 Undeniable Truths About Book Nerds. I love the graphic that says “You can’t buy happiness but you can buy books and that’s kind of the same thing.”
Finally, I so want this house. It used to be a public library, built in the 1940s. It was for sale in 1995 and a couple bought it and turned it into a house. Makes my dream of converting a barn into a library seem commonplace in comparison.
Oh my goodness, that house. It’s like all my childhood dreams of living in the library brought to life.
Claire, isn’t it pretty amazing? I wish there were more photos. My husband said it would be great to live there but he is rather enjoying turning our house into a library
Love the house. And that book nerd list is spot on! Describes me down to the last letter, ha ha.
Jeane, I pretty much nodded and laughed my way through the book nerd list; it’s so true
You saw a vision of the future, Stefanie! Don’t doubt these messages that come to you!
The book nerd list is very funny and the house/library is perfect.
Litlove, Ha! I will go immediately and speak with my library director to begin advocating for a new program! She’ll probably think I am nuts at first, but that’s the price of genius, right?
Oh wow, is that a dream house or what? Similarly but different: my aunt lives in a house that is a renovated barn, and it is really fun. Their bedroom is on the top (3rd) story and is the full length — huge!! It’s a great house. Back to the library-house — I love the dining room with the bookshelves!!
That book nerd list is a lot of fun (and worringly true). I hope Waldo and Dickens are suitably well read cats!
Ian, heh, I know, a definitely fun but worryingly true list. Of course Waldo and Dickens are well read, they must live up to their namesakes!
wherethereisjoy, isn’t it though? I love the bookshelves in the dining room too. Your aunt’s house sounds awesome!
Oh, what a great house … love that they kept some of those signs. And the colours are wonderful. You can go strong colours in such big rooms.
whisperinggums, isn’t it a beautiful house? I never would have thought to buy a library and live in it.
Hmm. I wonder if I can request a love letter for myself–I’ve never gotten one!
I think I would much rather have that library house, though–it already has lots of shelf space, which I could easily fill up! Love the book nerds post, too!
Danielle, you’ve never gotten a love letter? You should definitely see if you can request one then. The library house is great and of course you would need to have enough books to fill all that shelf space!
