Just when I was beginning to succumb to the tyranny of Monday and floundering for what I could possibly write about since my brain was feeling mushy due to the headache that started behind my right eye this afternoon at work, I have been saved.
In my email inbox was a newsletter from DailyLit that links to an online store called Litographs. These creative folk make marvelous art on posters, t-shirts and tote bags from the words of the text of the book the art is representing. The artwork is of a theme, character or setting from the book in question. They are amazing and I want them all. Well, almost all of them. I am definitely going to gift myself with a poster of Emerson’s essays. There are so many others that I like very much like a Hamlet T-shirt or a Just So Stories tote bag or anything Leaves of Grass or Jane Austen or, or, or…
Go check them out. The holidays are just around the corner but there is plenty of time to put your favorite on your list to Santa.
Oh, and after getting excited about all the fun stuff, my headache has just about disappeared.
Hey, those are really neat. I like the Dorian Gray print — a book I LOVED!

Cipriano, aren’t they? Dorian Gray is an excellent one!

Oh goody … I’ll check it out and hope they mail overseas. Thanks for the post – and I’m glad your headache has gone. But, you know you don’t have to post every Monday or any particular day for that matter.

Oh well nice idea .. they are gorgeous but $15 postage for us is rather too much. I shall just enjoy from afar.

These are great and what a brilliant idea. Illustration so often really adds something to a book and to take that inti T shirts etc is pretty amazing.

My apologies on behalf of USPS! We charge a bit less than it costs us to ship a poster overseas. Hoping someone invents some new technology that will make it easier and less expensive in the future.
In any case, thanks for the kind words and great writeup!

Whisperinggums, oh I know I don;t have to post every Monday or on a particular day, but long habit makes me feel weird if I don’t. Too bad the postage is so high to your neck of the woods.

It’s good for your soul to break habits every now and then … Then you won’t feel weird when you have to π

whisperinggums, LOL, I suppose so. I am a creature of routine, it’s how I keep all the balls in the air but now then juggling fewer balls might be ok. I have to work on that! π

Routine is good … As long as it’s not slavish I reckon. We’s probably get little done without it. But life isn’t routine, though it can seem that way at times!

I particularly love the one of the mermaids not singing to Prufrock.

Jeanne, isn’t that good? I was delighted when I saw that one since I am in the middle of a class on TS Eliot.

It’s one of my favorite designs, by the amazing Rachelle Meyer: http://www.rachellemeyer.com/
Here’s a brief statement from Rachelle about the artwork:
“What I decided to do here was zero in on some imagery from one of my favorites – The Love Song of J. Alfred Prufrock. It’s a bit fantastical – I like to think it captures some of Eliot’s recurring theme of a small man in the face of the infinite.”

I see what you mean! Every time I thought I’d found THE one another would seem even more desirable. I think ‘The Wind in the Willows’ has to be a must, though and probably the ‘Anne of Green Gables’ one as well. The Bears want to know why there isn’t a ‘Winnie the Pooh.

Alex, yup, that’s exactly it! One for Winnie The Pooh would be great. Perhaps there isn’t one because of copyright issues?

Thank you so much–I saw those totes in a bookstore in SF and knew I couldn’t afford to buy one then (having spent way too much $$$ already) and thought they were out of reach forever. But serendipity–now I can get one after all. I thought of you when I saw the Emerson design (then clicked back over and read the rest of your post and saw you might get one–perfect for you!). I supposed to be on a spending moratorium but….. π

Danielle, how wonderful you saw them in SF and can now not feel like you missed out! I am definitely getting an Emerson poster but there are so many good designs I might have get another poster for Bookman and I am very tempted by the Tortoise and Hare T-shirt! Hope you are able to get something for yourself, if not, maybe Santa will help you out come Christmas π
