Because it is Monday. Because it was 7F (-14C) as I walked out my door to the bus stop this morning. Because my dentist told me I have to have two old silver fillings replaced and also need a crown. Because I got one more library book from my hold queue today and I am pretty sure I won’t be able to finish the three I already have that I can’t renew. Because Thanksgiving is next week and not this week and I thought it was this week and was so excited about only having to work three days and then getting a four-day holiday weekend and pumpkin pie. Because why not?
Because Margaret Atwood cracks me up: How to survive a zombie apocalypse according to Margaret Atwood.
Because libraries are awesome when you are a kid and continue to be awesome when you are grown up too: 7 things only kids who practically grew up in a library can understand
Because librarians are awesome too: What book should you read next? Putting librarians and algorithms to the test.
Because Emma looking like a Victorian lady is hilarious: Jane Austen fashion history.
Because pizza soup, mushroom sandwiches, and tomato soup cake: The dishes 16 writers would bring to a literary potluck.
Because just because.
It sounds way more fun than it is to get a crown for Christmas.

Jeanne, LOL, doesn’t it though? If I didn’t know better I’d say my dentist was looking to get a little extra in his pocket for the holidays!

I love the covers of Jane Austen, I think my favourite is having Lydia and the soldiers on the cover of P&P, because isn’t that what it’s all about, really? The captions are funny too, although I think it may be Edith rather than Francis who was the great-grand-niece, slapped wrists all round at the Guardian.
I’m rather a long way from the Empire State Building so I don’t think I would survive a zombie apocalypse. Unless being unable to climb includes stairs? Because I could hide upstairs here if so. I should probably find out more about zombies if I hope to outwit them. In any case, I like thinking of you and Margaret Atwood at the top of the ESB eating peanut butter bars together while zombies seethe below.

Helen, aren’t those covers great? I know, P&P is all about Lydia and the soldiers. I am rather a long way from New York so maybe I’ll have to go to the top of the Target headquarters. But then the whole building is filled with zombies already so perhaps I’ll barricade myself in my house and hope for the best.

Oh my! Dental work…. I send many big hugs, as I absolutely loathe and detest the dentist’s chair. I hope you are arranging some proper rewards to yourself for having to sit in it. And the cold! The only thing I’m really glad about is that you are only reading about a zombie apocalypse! 🙂

Litlove, ah thank you! It was such a slap in the face as the hygienist had just cleaned my teeth and told me how wonderful everything looked and then the dentist walked in and very unfeelingly glanced in my mouth and delivered the bad news. I haven’t determined any rewards yet, but yes, there will definitely be some! I am also very grateful to only be reading about the zombie apocalypse 🙂

Brrrr. But there’s one plus in living in a cold climate…you won’t age as quickly because you keep better. So look at it that way and it doesn’t seem so bad at all. Also, I really related to the article about spending a lot of time in the library in childhood.

Grad, LOL, yes, we do tend to be well-preserved here! Isn’t the article about spending time in the library good? There are always things about growing up and our parents that made/make us angry but that they always took me to the library and encouraged me to read is something I am eternally grateful for.

Danielle, indeed they are! I am slowly resigning myself to careful eating and soft foods for the month of December. I think I might have to celebrate New Year’s with something extra crunchy 🙂

Thanks for that link to the article about librarians versus an algorithm. There was never any contest for me, people will always win over machines when it comes to reading.
