Be phenomenal, This Girl Can, Women! Do epic shit! And you get to decide what epic means don't let anyone else do it for you
Tonight I am having a brain failure. Don’t worry, it isn’t serious, just a temporary thing from busy days at work and too many things to keep track of at the moment along with no newly finished books to talk about. Soon though.
Thank goodness there is a new and fabulous Sports England ad. The voiceover of the video is Maya Angelou reading her poem, “Phenomenal Woman.” I love the poem anyway, but set to this video, it makes me teary-eyed every time I watch it. The only thing lacking is a cyclist!
For the poem in its entirety, visit Poetry Foundation. I miss Maya Angelou.
And speaking of women in sports, Nike has a great new ad too:
Phenomenal women, every one of us.
Oh that first brought tears to my eyes. I recently listened to an audio version of a collection of Maya Angelou’s poems, it was so moving.
The second ad just makes my heart happy. I love seeing women empowerment ads from mainstream companies!

Chanda, Angelou was/is wonderful to listen to. I think she could read the phonebook and I’d be mesmerized! The second ad makes my heart happy too, yeah it’s Nike, and yeah, they are selling stuff, but it’s still good 🙂

Tears here too! There are ‘This Girl Can’ ads on many bus stops around the city here. The campaign’s been going since 2015. Always makes me smile. You can see some of the posters here. I love them.

Nice effort from Nike, but trying not to be tooooooo cynical about their motives.

That Nike ad is great! Have you seen the ballerina project–the images are wonderful-ballerinas in places you do not expect to see them–city streets and parks—all over the world. Pretty cool stuff!

Danielle, I found it inspiring, not as much as the Girls Can one but it’s good! I have not seen the ballerina project so I just went and looked it up. What great images!

Oh doesn’t she read her own poem so beautifully too – the pace and timing. Brilliant.
And the Nike ad is great too.
I shall tell you my little Nike story. When we were house-training our last dog we had to come up with a word/phrase to tell it to do its business outside. The word had to be something you wouldn’t normally say inside – because could spell disaster! – and not something that would be embarrassing to say if you were out and about (like “go poo-poo”!) So, I came up with Nike (meaning, Just do it!) Worked a treat. I wonder what the Nike people would say about that.

whisperinggums, yes she does.
I love your Nike story! I think the company should use it in an ad for dog owners 🙂
