Born Melvin Kaminsky in Brooklyn, New York, on June 28th, 1926, Mel Brooks is one of the most highly acclaimed and successful comedic filmmakers of all time. He wrote for Sid Caesar’s “Your Show of Shows” before moving on to create classic comedies such as “The Producers,” “Blazing Saddles,” and “Young Frankenstein.” He won an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay for his movie adaptation of Broadway hit “The Producer,” and he was awarded a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Film Institute in 2009.
