George Orwell was born in India in 1903 and came to England as a child. He was educated at Eton College and served with the British Imperial Police in Burma before becoming a journalist. He is best known for his novels Animal Farm (1944) and Nineteen Eighty-Four (1949). Orwell died in London in 1950.
