Agatha Christie was born in Torquay, England on September 15, 1890. She wrote her first novel at the age of 19 and published it in 1921. Christie is best known for creating the detective Hercule Poirot and writing murder mysteries, which have been adapted into films, stage plays, radio shows and television series over several decades. In 1971 she was named a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE). Agatha Christie died on January 12, 1976, at the age of 85.
