Death on the Nile is a mystery novel by British writer Agatha Christie, first published in 1937. It features her fictional detective Hercule Poirot. The book takes place mostly on a cruise ship travelling down the Nile River from Cairo to Aswan in Egypt. Many of the passengers are suspects in murder case, which Poirot must solve before the murderer can escape justice.

Christie is best known for creating the detective Hercule Poirot and writing murder mysteries, which have been adapted into films, stage plays, radio shows and television series over several decades. In 1971 she was named a Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE). Agatha Christie died on January 12, 1976, at the age of 85.
