Robert Jordan was born in 1948 in Charleston, South Carolina. He was a graduate of the US Military Academy at West Point and served as an officer with the 82nd Airborne Division. He worked as a freelance writer before beginning The Wheel of Time series in 1990. Robert Jordan died in 2007.
