This is a heartwarming story of a young boy, who due to difficult family circumstances, is forced to grow up fast. He takes care of his little sister and finds solace in the Rocky Mountains near their home. The boy has a deep connection with nature, which helps him deal with the challenges of life. When he’s not hunting or fishing, he’s reading books from the local library or exploring the wilderness around him. One day, he comes across two red ferns growing next to each other and decides that he will plant one on either side of his house as a symbol for guardian angels watching over him always. This powerful metaphor becomes reality for him when tragedy strikes and he learns what it means to have compassion and hope during tough times.
